Choosing Networking Training 2009

By Jason Kendall

When thinking of a computer training program it's essential that the certification you'll be working towards appropriates with the working world. Additionally, you should make sure that your training will suit you, your personality and abilities. The courses range from Microsoft User Skills to career courses in Databases, Programming, Networking and Web Design. There's a lot to choose from and so you'll probably need to talk through your options with an experienced advisor prior to making your choice: you don't want to find you're studying for a job you'd actually hate!

With a great variety of competitively priced, easily understood training programs and help, you should inevitably find something that will take you into industry.

How are we supposed to make an educated choice then? With all these possibilities, it's essential to be guided as to where to dig - and of course, what to actually be digging for.

Potential Students eager to start an Information Technology career usually aren't sure which direction to follow, or which market to get qualified in. How likely is it for us to understand the day-to-day realities of any IT job if we've never been there? We normally haven't met someone who does that actual job anyway. Arriving at an informed conclusion only comes via a methodical study of several varying areas:

* The sort of individual you reckon you are - the tasks that you really enjoy, plus of course - what don't you like doing.

* Why it seems right moving into IT - it could be you're looking to conquer a particular goal like self-employment for example.

* What priority do you place on job satisfaction vs salary?

* Looking at the many markets that computing encompasses, you'll need to be able to take in how they differ.

* It's wise to spend some time thinking about any sacrifices you'll need to make, as well as what commitment and time you're going to give to your training.

For most people, getting to the bottom of all these ideas requires a good chat with an experienced pro that knows what they're talking about. And not just the accreditations - you also need to understand the commercial requirements of industry too.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always proper direct-access 24x7 support via professional mentors and instructors. It's an all too common story to find providers that will only offer a basic 9am till 6pm support period (maybe later on certain days) with very little availability over the weekend. Email support is too slow, and telephone support is usually to a call-centre who will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team - who will then call back sometime over the next 24hrs, at a time suitable for them. This is no use if you're sitting there confused over an issue and can only study at specific times.

World-class organisations opt for an internet-based 24x7 service involving many support centres from around the world. You'll have a single, easy-to-use environment which seamlessly accesses whichever office is appropriate at any time of day or night: Support when it's needed. Never settle for anything less. Direct-access round-the-clock support is the only kind that ever makes the grade with IT study. Perhaps you don't intend to study during the evenings; usually though, we're working when traditional support if offered.

Most trainers typically provide mainly work-books and reference manuals. It's not a very interesting way to learn and not a very good way of achieving retention. Our ability to remember is increased when all our senses are brought into the mix - learning experts have been saying this for years now.

Modern training can now be done at home via interactive discs. By watching and listening to instructors on video tutorials you'll absorb the modules, one by one, through their teaching and demonstrations. You can then test yourself by using practice-lab's. It's wise to view some of the typical study materials provided before you hand over your cheque. The minimum you should expect would be video tutorials, instructor demo's and audio-visual elements backed up by interactive lab's.

Select disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) every time. This then avoids all the potential pitfalls with internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.

'In-Centre workshop days' can be portrayed as an important element by a lot of training companies. After a good chat with the majority of computer industry trainees that have tried them out, you'll discover that they're really a major problem due to many reasons:

* Periodic travelling - hundreds of miles a lot of the time.

* For those of us that work, then weekday only workshops are difficult to make. You could be contending with 2-3 days at a time as well.

* Lost annual leave - most employed people get just four weeks holiday each year. If you use up half of that with training workshops, you haven't got a great deal of holiday time remaining for the student.

* Taking into account the costs associated with delivering a workshop, many trainers fill the classes up to the brim - which is not ideal (and with less one-on-one time).

* Some attendees want to work as quickly as possible, but some like to take it easier and want to set their own pace that fits. This causes difficulty and tension on many workshops.

* Add up the cost of all the travelling, food, accommodation and parking and you'll be in for a big surprise. Attendees mention extra costs of hundreds to thousands of pounds over time. Take some time to add it all up - then you'll know.

* Quite a lot of attendees want their studies to remain private thus avoiding all come-back from their current employer.

* Raising questions in front of other class-mates sometimes makes us feel awkward. Ever avoided asking a question just because you were worried it might make you look silly?

* For those of us who need to occasionally live or work away from home, imagine the trouble involved in getting to the required classes, as time is now more scarce than ever.

Surely it makes much more sense to learn at your convenience - not your training provider's - and employ instructor-led videos with interactive lab's. Training can take place wherever it suits you. If you own a laptop, why not catch a little fresh air in your garden while you learn. Any difficulties and logon to the 24x7 support facility. Note-taking is gone forever - all the lessons and background info are laid out on a plate. If you need to cover something again, it's immediately available. While this doesn't suddenly avoid all study problems, it definitely removes stress and makes things simpler. Plus you've got less costs, travel and hassle.

How can job security honestly exist anymore? In the UK for instance, where industry can change its mind whenever it suits, there doesn't seem much chance. We could however find market-level security, by searching for areas of high demand, coupled with a lack of qualified workers.

Offering the IT business for instance, the 2006 e-Skills survey demonstrated a skills deficit around Great Britain around the 26 percent mark. Alternatively, you could say, this reveals that Great Britain can only find 3 certified professionals for each 4 positions available now. Highly skilled and commercially certified new employees are as a result at a total premium, and it seems it will continue to be so for many years to come. Actually, seeking in-depth commercial IT training as you progress through the years to come is very likely the safest career direction you could choose.

License Obligations of Open Source Software

By Korak Mitra

Since there are several hundred thousand free, widely used, and well maintained open source packages on the internet, it makes perfect sense to leverage open source whenever possible. If you are a commercial software developer that depends on selling your own software in the marketplace, however, it is important to understand the legal obligations and the legal restrictions that come with your open source license.

The courts have ruled that violating the license obligations that come with open source is the same as copyright infringement, and this menas you do have to respect the license obligations when you use open source.

With most open source licenses, the license obligations only apply if you deploy the open source, i.e., you incorporate the binaries associated with the open source inside the binaries that you ship to your customers. If you use the open source software only as a development tool, the obligations posed by the open source do not apply.

With most Open Source licenses, the typical obligations center on attribution, re-distribution as well as various restrictions.

Attribution refers to giving credit to the authors and contributors of the open source software.

The requirements can include all, some, or none of the following:

* do not remove copyrights present in the source code

* provide credit in the end user documentation

* do not use the open source authors names to endorse the commercial product without permission

* clearly mark if you make any changes to the open source

* clearly show in the documentation where to get the open source code

* in any advertising you do for the commercial product, make sure you acknowledge the open source component provider.

Re-distribution refers to making the open source and related components free of charge and available to the public. This is typically done under the same license as the original open source and/or with a compatible license.

This can include the original open source, as well as any changes you make, and sometimes, any software "based on" the open source code. "Based on" is interpreted differently depending on the license.

Some licenses are viral, and can essentially force you to make all of your own commercial software that is linked to the open source software to also be given away free. These licenses are called "copy-left" licenses, and pose the greatest threat to a commercial software company's revenues.

Restrictions depend on the license, but common restrictions include:

* do not make any additions or changes to the open source

* do not distribute this open source software without adding your own with additional software

* do not remove copyrights or license text in the open source

* do not initiate patent claims against any of the contributors to the open source.

Violating these restrictions can cause the license to be terminated.

While there are over 100 unique licenses, the following discusses some of the common types:

The least restrictive licenses are public domain licenses. Source code provided in the Public Domain are free to use without restriction, i.e., you can use the source code without any attribution or redistribution and you can make modifications and derivative works; and you can distribute any or all of the open source software as you see fit.

These are followed by MIT style licenses, so named, because these licenses follow a template created by MIT. In these licenses, the rights are similar to public domain. The only obligation is attribution, whcih satisfied by leaving the original copyrights that came with the open source software in place and also providing credit to the open source authors in the end user documentation.

The next common style is BSD style licenses, originally created by the University of Berkeley, with both an original and a "modified" version of the license available. These licenses contain the same obligations as the MIT license, with the additional attribution requirement that the commercial software provider cannot use the names of the open source provider as a product endorsement without explicit permission.

The first version of the BSD license also required that in any advertising done for the commercial product, there was an acknowledgement of the open source provider, however the 2nd version is far more commonly used today.

The next common license style is from Apache, which is a large cooperative of open source contributors, with an extensive library of open source software. The Apache 1.1 licenses requirements are very similar to the BSD 2.0 license requirements.

The Apache 2.0 license adds that any modifications to the open source code must be clearly marked with a change log. The Apache 2.0 license also adds an important restriction, the patent non-assert clause, which essentially states that if you initiate patent litigation against any of the authors or contributors who helped create this open source, you can no longer use the open source.

The next common set of licenses is the Common Public License and its derivatives such as Eclipse Public License, IBM Public License, and the Mozilla Public License. These licenses all have similar obligations to the MIT license, but they also have additional obligations in attribution and redistribution.

The CPL 1.0 license requires that if the open source is modified, the commercial software developer has to make the original open source code and the modifications available for free. In addition, the commercial software developer has to state in the end user documentation how the user can obtain this open source code along with the changes. Finally, the source code changes made by the commercial developer should be clearly marked. It is important to understand, that the CPL is not viral, ie, it does not contaminate the commercial software developer's proprietary software.

The final common set of licenses are the LGPL v2.1 and the GPL 2.0 licenses, which together make up the majority of all of the open source code available on the internet.

The GPL 2.0 license has all the same attribution and redistribution requirements as the CPL license above. However, the GPL also require any works based on those packages to be offered (redistributed) under the same "free to the public" terms. Most commercial software companies consider this an unacceptable license for commercial software, as it threatens their revenues.

The LGPL v2.1 license carries a similar obligation to the GPL 2.0 license but more narrowly interprets when the redistribution obligation applies, which makes it friendlier to commercial companies than the GPL license. Basically, any commercial software which is not statically linked to the LGPL licensed package does not require redistribution.

However, the LGPL license also carries other obligations such as requiring the distributor of any package which includes the LGPL libraries to allow the end user to replace those libraries. This may cause support or packaging issues for the commercial software company.

There are also several dozen unique licenses for individual open source packages. While they can generally be classified as similar to one of the common licenses described above, they often have some unique requirement or feature that needs to be taken into account.

To summarize, open source licenses center on attribution and re-distribution, although they can have other requirements as well. Understanding these license obligations, and abiding by them, is the true cost of free open source, and it is important to understand and manage these license obligations to avoid legal issues and to safely leverage open source.

Computer Career Training - Making The Right Choice 2009

By Jason Kendall

Good for you! As you're reading this article it's likely you're thinking about getting re-qualified for a new job - that means you've already taken one more step than the majority. Very few of us are pleased to go to work each day, but most just moan and do nothing about it. You could join a select group who make a difference in their lives.

When considering retraining, it's crucial to initially know what you DO want and DON'T want from the position you would like to get. It's important to discover if you would be more satisfied before much time and effort is spent re-directing your life. We recommend looking at the end goal first, to avoid disappointment:

* Do you like to work collaborating with people? Is that as part of a team or with a lot of new people? Possibly operating on your own in isolation would be more your thing?

* What ideas are fundamentally important with regard to the sector of industry you'll be employed in?

* Is it important that this should be a one off time that you will need more qualifications?

* Do you think being qualified will give you the opportunity to find the work you're looking for, and keep working until you wish to retire?

When listing your options, it's relevant that your number one choice is the IT sector - everyone knows that it's developing all the time. It's not full of geeky individuals staring at computers the whole time - of course those jobs exist, but most jobs are carried out by Joe averages who are earning rather well.

There is a tidal wave of change about to hit technology over the next few decades - and this means greater innovations all the time. We've only just begun to scrape the surface of how technology will affect our lives in the future. The internet will significantly revolutionise how we view and interrelate with the entire world over the coming years.

If earning a good living is around the top on your wish list, you will welcome the news that the usual remuneration of a typical IT worker is significantly better than salaries in most other jobs or industries. Because the IT market sector is still emerging nationally and internationally, it's looking good that the need for appropriately qualified IT professionals will continue actively for decades to come.

What questions do we need to be posing if we'd like to get the understanding we need? Since it seems there are many pretty tremendous prospects for us all to look at.

A expert and practiced consultant (in contrast with a salesperson) will talk through your current experience level and abilities. This is paramount to working out the point at which you need to start your studies. With a little real-world experience or base qualifications, it may be that your starting point of study is different from a beginner. Always consider starting with a user-skills course first. Beginning there can make the transition to higher-level learning a a little easier.

Training support for students is an absolute must - locate a good company providing 24x7 full access, as anything else will annoy you and definitely put a damper on the speed you move through things. Avoid, like the plague, any organisations that use 'out-of-hours' messaging systems - where an advisor will call back during office hours. It's no use when you're stuck on a problem and could do with an answer during your scheduled study period.

The very best training providers utilise several support facilities active in different time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to provide a seamless experience, at any time you choose, there is always help at hand, with no hassle or contact issues. If you opt for less than direct-access 24x7 support, you'll regret it very quickly. You may not need it during the night, but what about weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point.

The age-old way of teaching, with books and manuals, can be pretty hard going sometimes. If this describes you, look for learning programmes which feature interactive and multimedia modules. Learning psychology studies show that we remember much more when we involve as many senses as possible, and we get physically involved with the study process.

Start a study-program in which you're provided with an array of CD and DVD ROM's - you'll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, and then have the opportunity to use virtual lab's to practice your new skills. You'll definitely want a study material demo' from your training provider. The package should contain instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and lab's for you to practice your skills in.

It is generally unwise to go for purely on-line training. Due to the variable nature of connection quality from your average broadband company, make sure you get disc based courseware (On CD or DVD).

Many students come unstuck over a single training area which doesn't even occur to them: The method used to 'segment' the courseware before being delivered to your home. The majority of training companies will set up a program spread over 1-3 years, and drop-ship the materials to you piecemeal as you complete each exam. Sounds reasonable? Well consider these facts: Often, the staged breakdown insisted on by the company won't suit you. You may find it a stretch to finalise all the elements inside of their particular timetable?

For maximum flexibility and safety, it's normal for most trainees to request that all their modules (now paid for) are posted to them in one go, with nothing held back. It's then up to you in what order and how fast or slow you'd like to work.

'Exam Guarantees' are often bundled with training offers - this always means exams have to be paid for upfront, at the start of your training. But before you get taken in by guaranteed exams, look at the following:

Patently it's not free - you're still paying for it - the cost has just been rolled into the whole training package. Those who take each progressive exam, funding them as they go are much better placed to get through first time. They are mindful of their investment and revise more thoroughly to be ready for the task.

Why pay the training college up-front for exams? Find the best exam deal or offer when you take the exam, don't pay mark-ups - and sit exams more locally - not at somewhere of their bidding. Is there a good reason to pay interest on a bigger loan than is necessary because you've paid early for examination fees when there's absolutely nothing that says you have to? A great deal of money is secured by training companies charging upfront for all their exams - and then cashing in when they're not all taken. Re-takes of previously unsuccessful exams through training course providers who offer an 'Exam Guarantee' are always heavily controlled. They will insist that you take pre-tests first so you can prove to them you have a good chance of passing.

Shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds on 'Exam Guarantees' is remiss - when hard work, commitment and the right preparation via exam simulations is actually the key to your success.

Many trainers will provide a useful Job Placement Assistance facility, designed to steer you into your first job. Often, this feature is bigged up too much, as it is actually not that hard for any motivated and trained individual to secure a job in IT - as there is such a shortage of trained staff.

Help with your CV and interview techniques is sometimes offered (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Make sure you polish up your CV straight away - don't leave it till you pass the exams! It's not unusual to find that you will be offered your initial job whilst you're still studying (occasionally right at the beginning). If your CV doesn't show your latest training profile (and it hasn't been posted on jobsites) then you don't stand a chance! Normally you'll get better results from a specialised and independent local recruitment service than any course provider's employment division, as they'll know the local area and commercial needs better.

Not inconsiderable numbers of men and women, so it seems, are prepared to study their hearts out (sometimes for years), and just give up when it comes to finding a job. Market yourself... Do everything you can to let employers know about you. Don't think a job's just going to jump out in front of you.

Loving Mobile Phones

You might not believe this but not too long ago I was very lucky to receive the iphone 3g from my boss at work. It had been used for a couple of months but he wanted the bigger model so he said that I could have it. Thanks boss.

Now I have had the iphone for a few months and I really enjoy it. It is bigger than most mobile phones but it just looks so extremely cool with its black, silver and glass case. Gotta love it.

At one time I was looking into the Blackberry phones because we needed a data phone solution for work related issues but after I researched what was required for a Blackberry to work it wasn't the right solution for a company as small as the one I was working for.

Hindi Download Movies

Until recently, if you wanted to watch a movie, a trip to a video store like blockbuster was your only option. You can now save a trip to the video store and download movies right off the internet. Below, is a sample of some of the movies you can find using movie download sites.

Lost In Space is a feature film based on the TV series. John Robinson, with his wife Maureen, their kids Judy, Penny, and Will are to be the first from Earth to colonize space. Now they are lost in space.

Home Based Web Design Courses 2009

By Jason Kendall

If you'd like to become a web designer qualified appropriately for today's employment market, the course you need is Adobe Dreamweaver. It's also recommended that you learn all about the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite, which incorporates Flash and Action Script, to have the facility to use Dreamweaver as a commercial web-designer. Having such skills can result in you subsequently becoming an Adobe Certified Expert or Adobe Certified Professional (ACE or ACP).

Making a website is just one aspect of the necessary skill-set for professional web masters today. You'd be wise to only accept a course with additional features such as PHP, HTML and MySQL to enable you to understand how to create traffic, maintain content and program dynamic sites that are database driven.

There is a tidal wave of change flooding technology over the next few decades - and the industry becomes more ground-breaking every year. Many people are of the opinion that the revolution in technology we've had over recent years is lowering its pace. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have yet to experience incredible advances, and the internet in particular will become an increasingly dominant part of our lives.

And don't forget salaries also - the average salary across the UK for the usual person working in IT is considerably greater than in the rest of the economy. It's likely you'll make quite a bit more than you'd typically expect to bring in elsewhere. Due to the technological sector emerging year on year, one can predict that the requirement for appropriately qualified IT professionals will flourish for decades to come.

Evidently, the Information Technology (IT) market shows exceptional prospects. But, to investigate fully, what sort of questions should we pose, and what are the areas we need to look at?

Don't get hung-up, as many people do, on the accreditation program. You're not training for the sake of training; this is about employment. Begin and continue with the end in mind. It's unfortunate, but the majority of trainees begin programs that seem amazing in the marketing materials, but which delivers a career that is of no interest at all. Speak to a selection of college leavers for a real eye-opener.

It's well worth a long chat to see what industry will expect from you. What particular certifications you'll be required to have and how you'll go about getting some commercial experience. It's also worth spending time assessing how far you wish to progress your career as often it can present a very specific set of certifications. As a precursor to beginning a particular study programme, trainees are advised to talk through specific market needs with an experienced industry advisor, to be absolutely sure the training path covers all that is required.

A lot of training companies only give office hours or extended office hours support; It's rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Avoid certification programs which can only support students via a message system when it's outside of usual working hours. Training organisations will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. Essentially - support is needed when it's needed - not as-and-when it's suitable for their staff.

The best training colleges tend to use a web-based round-the-clock facility pulling in several support offices across the globe. You will be provided with a single, easy-to-use interface that accesses the most appropriate office no matter what time of day it is: Support on demand. Search out a training provider that cares. As only true live 24x7 support truly delivers for technical programs.

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, utilising reference manuals and books, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If all this is ringing some familiar bells, check out study materials that are multimedia based. Research has repeatedly confirmed that getting into our studies physically, is much more conducive to long-term memory.

Modern training can now be done at home via interactive CD and DVD ROM's. By watching and listening to instructors on video tutorials you'll absorb the modules, one by one, through the expert demonstrations. You can then test yourself by interacting with the software and practicing yourself. It makes sense to see examples of the courseware provided before you hand over your cheque. You should expect video tutorials, instructor demo's and interactive modules with audio-visual elements.

Often, companies will only use training that is purely available online; while you can get away with this much of the time, think what will happen if internet access is lost or you get slow speeds and down-time etc. A safer solution is the provision of CD and DVD ROM materials that will not have these problems.

The way a programme is physically sent to you is often missed by many students. How is the courseware broken down? What is the order and at what speed is it delivered? Usually, you will purchase a course requiring 1-3 years study and receive a module at a time. It seems to make sense on one level, but consider these issues: What if for some reason you don't get to the end of every section? And what if the order provided doesn't meet your requirements? Through no fault of your own, you may not meet the required timescales and not get all the study materials as a result.

In an ideal situation, you want everything at the start - giving you them all to come back to in the future - irrespective of any schedule. You can also vary the order in which you complete each objective if you find another route more intuitive.

It's essential to have authorised exam simulation and preparation programs as part of your training package. Because many IT examination boards are from the USA, you must be prepared for the way exams are phrased. You can't practice properly by simply answering any old technical questions - they must be in an exam format that exactly replicates the real thing. Why don't you check your depth of understanding by doing tests and practice exams prior to taking the actual exam.

The perhaps intimidating chore of getting your first job can be made easier by some training providers because they offer a Job Placement Assistance programme. Ultimately it isn't so complicated as you might think to land your first job - as long as you've got the necessary skills and qualifications; the shortage of IT personnel in Britain looks after that.

Ideally you should have advice and support about your CV and interviews though; additionally, we would recommend any student to get their CV updated right at the beginning of their training - don't wait until you've graduated or passed any exams. Quite often, you will be offered your first position while you're still a student (even in the early stages). If your CV doesn't show your latest training profile (and it hasn't been posted on jobsites) then you don't stand a chance! The best services to help you land that job are generally specialist locally based employment services. As they're keen to place you to receive their commission, they have more incentive to get on with it.

A common grievance for many course providers is how much students are prepared to work to pass exams, but how ill-prepared they are to market themselves for the role they've qualified for. Get out there and hustle - you might find it's fun.

When Hard Drive Data Recovery Doesn't Work

By Jason Donovan

We all know by now that all computers may crash from time to time, making us lose our important data. This is why backups are key to data safety. Not all of us are so wise and detailed when it comes to such routine operations. Hard drive data recovery services can bring your data back, but they aren't always successful.

There are various reasons why the files on a hard disk can be lost or corrupted. The hard drive crash is only one of these possible causes. Other frequent ones are: accidental deletion, accidental format, operating system failure, or physical damage of the disk such as floods, fire or dropping from a big height.

In case disk data appears to be corrupt or missing, it is crucial that you shut down immediately that computer and call the data recovery service specialists. They can assess the damage and give you advice on the next steps you need to do in order to see your data back again. If not, you risk a permanent loss.

The best way to find out if data recovery is still possible is to seek for data specialists advice. Data recovery companies can tell you how big your chances are to retrieve your information.

Generally speaking, many types of data retrieval are possible: NTFS, FAT, Novell data recovery, Macintosh data recovery, Linux data recovery or logical data error recovery. Each of them requires special software tools to get the job done. There are no success guarantees, but usually the success rate is pretty high.

A hard disk crash can be diagnosed in very early stage by the computer user. All you have to do is pay attention to the sound of your computer when in use. Any strange noises such as cracks should trigger your fast reaction of switching the computer off.

Crashed RAID disks can be retrieved, but no service would guarantee you complete success. In order for a RAID recovery to succeed, it is necessary that all the servers in the array are accessible.

Choosing CompTIA Network Plus Training 2009

By Jason Kendall

Computer and network support technicians are more and more sought after in the UK, as institutions rely heavily upon their knowledge and capacity to solve problems. The nation's requirement for larger numbers of qualified personnel grows, as society becomes vastly more reliant on PC's in the twenty first century.

How are we supposed to go about making an informed choice then? With such prospects, it's imperative to understand where to search - and what it is we should be digging for.

A skilled and professional advisor (in contrast with a salesperson) will talk through your current level of ability and experience. This is vital for understanding your study start-point. An important point to note is that, if you've had any relevant previous certification, then it's not unreasonable to expect to pick-up at a different starting-point to someone new to the industry. Opening with a basic PC skills module first is often the best way to get into your IT studies, but depends on your skill level.

One of the most important things to insist on has to be 24x7 round-the-clock support via dedicated instructors and mentors. It's an all too common story to find providers that will only offer a basic 9am till 6pm support period (maybe later on certain days) with very little availability over the weekend. Never accept study programmes that only provide support to trainees with a call-centre messaging system outside of normal office hours. Trainers will defend this with all kinds of excuses. The simple fact of the matter is - support is required when it's required - not when it's convenient for them.

As long as you look hard, you will find professional companies which offer direct-access support 24x7 - including evenings, nights and weekends. You can't afford to accept anything less. Online 24x7 support is the only way to go for computer-based training. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; often though, we're working while the support is live.

Students who consider this area of study often have a very practical outlook on work, and won't enjoy sitting at a desk in class, and slogging through piles of books. If this could be you, opt for more involving, interactive learning materials, where you can learn everything on-screen. Memory is vastly improved when all our senses are brought into the mix - experts have been clear on this for many years.

Interactive full motion video involving demonstration and virtual lab's will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And they're a lot more fun to do. Don't take any chances and look at some of the typical study materials provided before you hand over your cheque. The minimum you should expect would be instructor-led video demonstrations and interactive audio-visual sections with practice modules.

Many companies provide online training only; and although this is okay the majority of the time, think what will happen if internet access is lost or you get slow speeds and down-time etc. It's preferable to have actual CD or DVD ROMs that don't suffer from these broadband issues.

One area often overlooked by new students considering a training program is 'training segmentation'. Essentially, this is the way the course is divided up for delivery to you, which can make a dramatic difference to how you end up. Individual deliveries for each training module piece by piece, according to your exam schedule is the normal way of receiving your courseware. While seeming sensible, you should take these factors into account: How would they react if you didn't complete every module within the time limits imposed? And maybe you'll find their order of completion doesn't work as well as another different route may.

The very best situation would see you getting every piece of your study pack packed off to your address right at the beginning; the entire package! This way, nothing can happen down the line which could affect the reaching of your goals.

A subtle way that training providers make a lot more is by charging for exams up-front and then including an 'Exam Guarantee'. This looks like a great idea for the student, but is it really:

You'll pay for it one way or another. You can be assured it's not a freebie - they've simply charged more for the whole training package. People who go in for their examinations when it's appropriate, paying for them just before taking them are in a much stronger position to qualify at the first attempt. They're thoughtful of the cost and take the necessary steps to make sure they're ready.

Doesn't it make more sense to not pay up-front, but when you're ready, not to pay any mark-up to a training company, and to do it locally - rather than in some remote centre? Why borrow the money or pay in advance (plus interest of course) on examinations when there's absolutely nothing that says you have to? Huge profits are made by companies charging upfront for all their exams - and hoping either that you won't take them, or it will be a long time before you do. Also, 'Exam Guarantees' often aren't worth the paper they're written on. Most companies won't be prepared to pay again for an exam until you've completely satisfied them that you're ready this time.

Due to typical VUE and Prometric examinations in the United Kingdom costing around 112 pounds, it's common sense to fund them one by one. Why splash out often many hundreds of pounds extra at the beginning of your training? A commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools are actually the key to your success.

The perhaps intimidating chore of finding your first job is often eased by training colleges, through a Job Placement Assistance service. With the growing skills shortage in the United Kingdom today, there isn't a great need to become overly impressed with this service however. It isn't so complicated as you might think to secure a job once you're well trained and qualified.

Nevertheless, don't leave it until you have qualified before polishing up your CV. As soon as you start a course, enter details of your study programme and get it out there! It's possible that you won't have even qualified when you will be offered your first junior support role; yet this isn't going to happen if your CV isn't in front of employers. The best services to help you find a job are usually local IT focused employment agencies. Because they get paid commission to place you, they'll work that much harder to get a result.

In a nutshell, as long as you focus the same level of energy into getting your first job as into studying, you won't have any problems. Some people bizarrely put hundreds of hours into their course materials and then call a halt once certified and seem to expect employers to find them.

There is a tidal wave of change coming via technology over the next few decades - and this means greater innovations all the time. We've barely started to see just how technology will affect our lives in the future. Technology and the web will significantly revolutionise how we regard and interact with the world as a whole over the coming decades.

Incomes in IT are not a problem moreover - the usual income in Great Britain for the usual person working in IT is a lot better than remuneration packages in other sectors. Chances are that you'll receive quite a bit more than you could reasonably hope to get in other industries. It's no secret that there is a substantial UK-wide demand for professionally qualified IT workers. In addition, with the constant growth in the marketplace, it is likely this pattern will continue for the significant future.

Adobe Web Design Training - How Do You Choose 2009

By Jason Kendall

If your dream is to become a great web designer with relevant qualifications for the job market today, your must-have certification is Adobe Dreamweaver. For applications in the commercial world it's important to have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the whole Adobe Web Creative Suite. This is including (though it's not limited to) Flash and Action Script. Should you desire to become an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) or Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) you'll find these skills are vital.

In order to establish yourself as a full web professional however, there is much more to consider. You will need to learn certain programming skills like PHP, HTML, and MySQL. A practical knowledge of E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) will also improve your CV and employability.

Let's admit it: There really is no such thing as individual job security anymore; there's only industry or business security - companies can just drop any single member of staff when it fits the business' trade requirements. Whereas a marketplace with high growth, with a constant demand for staff (due to a growing shortfall of trained professionals), provides a market for proper job security.

Recently, a UK e-Skills study highlighted that 26 percent of IT jobs haven't been filled as an upshot of a chronic shortage of trained staff. To explain it in a different way, this reveals that the UK is only able to source 3 certified professionals for every four jobs that exist at the moment. Highly skilled and commercially certified new workers are therefore at a total premium, and it's estimated to remain so for many years longer. For sure, now, more than ever, really is a critical time for retraining into IT.

Reaching a sensible career development option is fraught with stress - so which sectors are important to investigate and what questions do we need to be seeking the answers to?

A so-called advisor who doesn't dig around with lots of question - chances are they're actually nothing more than a salesman. If they're pushing towards a particular product before learning about your history and experience, then it's very likely to be the case. With a bit of live experience or qualifications, you may find that your starting point is very different to someone completely new. Where this will be your opening stab at an IT exam then you should consider whether to start out with a user-skills course first.

Some training providers will only provide basic 9am till 6pm support (maybe a little earlier or later on certain days); not many go late into the evening (after 8-9pm) or cover weekends properly. Beware of institutions that use 'out-of-hours' messaging systems - where you'll get called back during normal office hours. It's no use when you're stuck on a problem and need help now.

The best training colleges tend to use an online 24x7 system utilising a variety of support centres throughout multiple time-zones. You're offered an interface that switches seamlessly to the best choice of centres irrespective of the time of day: Support when you need it. If you fail to get yourself 24x7 support, you'll end up kicking yourself. It may be that you don't use it late in the night, but consider weekends, late evenings or early mornings.

We can guess that you're quite practically minded - the 'hands-on' person. If you're like us, the trial of reading reference books and manuals can be just about bared when essential, but it's not ideal. Check out video-based multimedia instruction if books just don't do it for you. Studies have consistently demonstrated that getting into our studies physically, is proven to produce longer-lasting and deeper memory retention.

Start a study-program in which you'll get a host of DVD-ROM's - you'll begin by watching videos of instructors demonstrating the skills, followed by the chance to fine-tune your skills in fully interactive practice sessions. Don't take any chances and look at some examples of the kind of training materials you'll be using before you purchase a course. Always insist on instructor-led video demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Seek out CD or DVD ROM based materials wherever available. This then avoids all the potential pitfalls with the variability of broadband quality and service.

Now, why is it better to gain qualifications from the commercial sector instead of the usual academic qualifications obtained from tech' colleges and universities? Industry is now aware that to cover the necessary commercial skill-sets, official accreditation supplied for example by CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA is closer to the mark commercially - at a far reduced cost both money and time wise. They do this through focusing on the actual skills required (alongside a proportionate degree of associated knowledge,) as opposed to trawling through all the background detail and 'fluff' that academic courses are prone to get tied up in (because the syllabus is so wide).

It's a bit like the TV advert: 'It does what it says on the tin'. Employers simply need to know what they need doing, and then advertise for someone with the specific certification. Then they're assured that a potential employee can do exactly what's required.

The best type of training course package should incorporate wholly authorised simulation materials and exam preparation packages. Due to the fact that a lot of IT examination boards are American, you must be prepared for the way exams are phrased. It isn't good enough simply answering any old technical questions - it's essential that you can cope with them in the proper exam format. Simulations and practice exams will prove invaluable for confidence building - then when the time comes for you to take the real thing, you won't be worried.

Several companies supply a practical Job Placement Assistance program, to help you get your first job. Ultimately it's not as difficult as you may be led to believe to land a job - once you're trained and certified; because there's still a great need for IT skills in the UK today.

However, what is relevant is to have advice and support about your CV and interviews though; additionally, we would recommend everyone to bring their CV up to date as soon as training commences - don't delay until you've graduated or passed any exams. Getting your CV considered is far better than not even being known about. A surprising amount of junior jobs are got by trainees in the early stages of their course. If you'd like to get employment in your home town, then you'll probably find that a specialist independent regional recruitment consultant or service might be more appropriate than a national service, for they are much more inclined to have insider knowledge of the local job scene.

A slight aggravation of many course providers is how much men and women are prepared to study to get qualified, but how little effort that student will then put into getting the job they've acquired skills for. Don't give up when the best is yet to come.

Green Search Engine - Saves PC Power and your Eyes

By Prof. Stephenie M spears

Wikipedia states the eyes of human beings revolve around the relation of color receptors in the cone cells of the eye. Color blindness is the effect of a missing receptor. The primary colors green-red-yellow contribute towards development of cornea cells in recognizing brightness of all colors. dueteranopia is the form of red-green color blindness which is mot common when eyes are note exposed to enough green. Green is the most restful to the eye out of the primary colors.

GREEN - The term is unique in its appeal similar to many of the colors that nature bestows on us. According to Greenmaven team The Green color symbolises peace, flourishing vegetation and abundance. The perception of green is evoked by light having a spectrum dominated by energy with a wavelength of roughly 520to 570 nanometre. The sensitivity of the dark-adapted human eye is greatest at about 507 nm, a blue-green color, while the light-adapted eye is most sensitive about 555 nm, a slightly yellowish green; these are the peak locations of the rod and cone (scotopic and photopic, respectively) luminosity functions.

All over the world Green politics and Green parties are extending their roots to emphasize the importance of eco- contribution and raise alarm over threats of global warming and silicon garbage. According to Roberson et al study 2001 , The CRT monitors have been the culprit for a long time in consuming energy watts and LCD monitors were introduced to reduce the eye strain with eye soothing background contrasts. A White background in a web page uses 74 energy watts when compared to that of a Black background.

That brings us to the brink of new world of enterprises that are taking the world by storm and Internet being the most powerful median in the history of mankind, awareness of any essential thing is just a click away. While search engines like Blackle and envirogle moved to black theme with their google partnered search websites, Officialiwant.com and Greenmaven sites have opted for green theme to not only save PC power but also viewers eyes and provide healing support to its users.

Meanwhile, OIW Green team with collabaration of Google.com has been around for a while and has raised interests in several web entities to Go completely Green, The OfficialIwant.com Green search is now being shared extensively in schools, colleges and health conscious individuals alike. It is claimed by the OIW green team that, while any green background has the same properties, The OIW colors and texts have been optimized for maximum benefit for the users and their PC as well.

According to OIW user feedback, Searching at officialiwant.com for 5 minutes and then switch to google.com on a new webpage clearly demonstrates the difference and benefits to the user without any more theorotical explanation. We at Nelson IT college are promoting Officialiwant.com as moral obligation and would recommend http://www.Officialiwant.com to you. Save your eyes Save your PC Go green today.

Online Internet Security

By charlie reese

It does not matter where you live or what you do, there are always going to be dangers associated with your personal information, your computer, and the Internet. You can find great ways to protect yourself through software, but you should also do some things on your own to make sure you are as safe as you can be. Your personal data is going to be much safer if you have your own top Internet security precautions that you take on your own. These are things you should practice no matter where you are at home or in your travels.

The most obvious steps in having top Internet security on your computer would be to have the things that most recommend that you have. This would include a top-notch firewall and a good anti-virus program that works with your system. Though your computer may come with its own firewall, it never hurts to go out and get another one so you know you are in total control of what comes in and what goes out. That is a huge part of top Internet security that you can control totally on your own.

If you have a wireless network in your home, you have to think about top Internet security ideas that are going to keep your signal safe. Each modem will connect with your router and that router than sends and receives information to and from your computer. That is where things can get tricky. The right person with the right equipment can intercept that signal, use it to get online, or even worse, they could be stealing personal information like bank account passwords and other precious bits of financial information. Make sure you have a secured network to avoid all of those things.

When you are out traveling and you take a laptop with you, there are many places where you can get Internet service. This is the time when top Internet security options are all that you should be thinking about. If you have an Internet connection in your hotel room, ask the front desk how secure that connection may be. In most cases, you are going to be safe. However, if you are getting free WiFi, you had better think twice about going anywhere to enter any passwords. Your signal could be intercepted by anyone.

There are some very simple things that you can do for top Internet security when you are using a computer other than your own. If you go to the local library, for example, you have to be sure you are thinking about each thing that you do. Know that others can view what you have on your screen, and that signing out of each and every page you open is essential. Though there are many sites that have build in security features, you want to sign out no matter what. Dont assume that you have top Internet security when you go anywhere. Take matters into your own hands when it comes to the safety of your information.

What to Consider when Purchasing a Rugged Computer

By Guiseppe Sirloina

You might have heard about rugged computing - the production of computers that can take almost anything you can throw at them. However, do you really need a laptop that's engineered to take it all?

There are lots of different types and styles of rugged computers, from the semi rugged to the fully rugged. There are even laptops made to stand up to the rigorous standards of the US military.

Several different companies make rugged computers, too. Panasonic's Toughbook is one of the most famous, but there are also tough computers made by Getac, Twinhead, Motion Computing, Itronix and others.

If you're thinking about getting one of these machines, you'll need to think hard about what you need it for and the conditions it's capable of dealing with. Not all computers are meant to deal with the same things, after all. Here are some of the problems and precautions that a rugged computer might have.

Some of the most common threats include drops, falls, and jarring - from a desk, while in transit, or even a tumble down a long drop. This could damage the casing, screen, and hard drive, and computers that will resist this kind of damage must have a protected hard drive - these drives can sense motion and will stop operating. There are also computers with light metal alloy cases and shock protected screens.

Vibration is another big problem, and can cause keyboard failure and other damage. People using their computer in large moving vehicles are likely to have this problem. A laptop protected against vibration will have shock mounts for internal components.

Dust and moisture are two other big problems, including environmental dust, spills, condensation and even rain. These can come in through cracks and seams in the case, causing internal problems. A computer that's proof against dust and liquid will be well sealed around each port and seam.

Many rugged computers are also exposed to extreme temperatures, both high and low. People working in the field or who may need to leave their computer in a place that's not temperature controlled want to know that their laptop will keep on functioning. Insulated computers that have better cooling systems and even small heaters can survive conditions that other machines wouldn't make it through.

Rugged computers may cost more than regular laptops, but they're great for many uses, from outdoor work to frequent travel. That makes them worth it. Only buying rugged hardware lets you be certain you'll have a functioning computer whenever and wherever you might need it.

A consumer grade laptop is great if you never leave the office, never change temperatures, and aren't in danger of dropping your machine. However, if you're going to be putting your computer under any stresses at all, a rugged machine is definitely the way to go.

Computer Career Retraining Online - What Are The Options 2009

By Jason Kendall

As there are a plethora of computer study programs on the market today, it can be difficult to know where to start. Find one that's on a par with your abilities and personality, and that's in demand in the working environment. You can learn anything from Microsoft User Skills up to career training for Networking, Programming, Databases and Web Design. There's a lot to choose from and so it's probably best to chat to an industry expert prior to making your choice: it would be awful to start the wrong training for an area that you don't enjoy!

By keeping costs to a minimum, computer training providers can now offer up-to-the-minute courses that have great quality training and assistance for much less than is expected from the old-school colleges.

How are we supposed to go about making an informed decision then? With all these possibilities, we have to know where we should look - and what to be looking for.

Looking at the myriad of choice out there, it's not really surprising that most potential trainees don't really understand the best career path they should even pursue. Working through a list of odd-sounding and meaningless job titles is no use whatsoever. Most of us don't really appreciate what our good friends do at work - so we have no hope of understanding the complexities of a specific IT job. To get through to the essence of this, we need to discuss many core topics:

* The sort of individual you consider yourself to be - the tasks that you enjoy doing, and on the other side of the coin - what makes you unhappy.

* Is your focus to obtain training because of a precise raison d'etre - e.g. are you looking at working based from home (self-employment possibly?)?

* Any personal or home needs you may have?

* Many students don't properly consider the amount of work required to gain all the necessary accreditation.

* You have to understand the differences across all the training areas.

For the majority of us, dissecting so much data will require meeting with an advisor who has direct industry experience. Not only the certifications - you also need to understand the commercial expectations and needs also.

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, using textbooks and whiteboards, is usually pretty hard going. If all this is ringing some familiar bells, dig around for more practical courses that are on-screen and interactive. We see a huge improvement in memory retention when all our senses are brought into the mix - this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for decades now.

Fully interactive motion videos involving demonstration and virtual lab's beat books hands-down. And you'll find them fun and interesting. You really need to look at examples of the study materials provided by the company you're considering. They have to utilise video, demonstrations and various interactive elements.

Avoid training that is purely online. You want physical CD/DVD ROM course materials where obtainable, enabling them to be used at your convenience - ISP quality varies, so you don't want to be totally reliant on a good broadband connection all the time.

If you're thinking of using a certification company which is still using 'in-centre workshop days' as part of their program, then consider these difficulties met by the majority of students:

* Loads of journeys to the workshops - sometimes quite a distance away.

* Access to classes; often Mon-Fri and two or three days in a row. It's never convenient to take the required time off work.

* If we get four weeks vacation allowance, using half of that on educational classes often means losing out on family and vacation time.

* With the high costs involved, many schools make the classes quite large - which is not ideal (increasing the ratio of students to teachers).

* Class pace - workshops typically feature students of varied abilities, consequently there is often tension between students with more background knowledge and those who want to go a little slower.

* Many students talk of the high costs involved with travelling back and forth to the training school while covering the cost of accommodation and food gets very high.

* Not wanting employers to know about the training can be very important to many students. There's no need to give up any job advancement, income boosts or achievement at your current job because you're getting trained in a different area. When your boss discovers you're taking steps towards qualification in a different industry, what do you think they'll do?

* How many of us have shied away from raising a hand in the air, because we wanted to fit in?

* Typically, days in-centre become virtually unreachable, in cases where you live away for some part of the year.

Doesn't it make a lot more sense to take classes when it suits you -- not the training company - and make use of interactive videos of instructors teaching a class. You can study at home on your desktop computer or why not in the garden on a laptop. If you've got questions, then make use of the 24x7 support (that should've been packaged with any technical type of training.) Note-taking is gone forever - everything is prepared in advance for you. Any time you want to repeat something, just do it. Put directly: You avoid a bunch of hassle, save money and time, and altogether avoid polluting the environment.

Of all the important things to consider, one of the most essential is always full 24x7 support with dedicated instructors and mentors. Far too often we see trainers who only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later (but not weekends usually). You'll be waiting ages for an answer with email based support, and phone support is usually just a call-centre who will make some notes and then email an advisor - who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, at a suitable time to them. This is no good if you're stuck with a particular problem and can only study at specific times.

The most successful trainers use multiple support centres from around the world. They use an online interactive interface to seamlessly link them all together, irrespective of the time you login, help is at hand, without any problems or delays. If you fail to get yourself direct-access 24x7 support, you'll very quickly realise that you've made a mistake. You may avoid using the support throughout the night, but consider weekends, early mornings or late evenings.

Lately, do you find yourself questioning the security of your job? For the majority of us, this only rears its head when something goes wrong. But in today's marketplace, the lesson often learned too late is that true job security simply doesn't exist anymore, for the vast majority of people. Of course, a marketplace with high growth, where there just aren't enough staff to go round (through a massive shortage of trained workers), opens the possibility of real job security.

The Information Technology (IT) skills shortage in the UK currently stands at approx twenty six percent, as shown by the 2006 e-Skills analysis. Therefore, for each 4 job positions that exist around the computer industry, companies are only able to find enough qualified individuals for three of them. This one concept in itself shows why the country needs a lot more trainees to join the industry. It would be hard to imagine if a better time or market conditions will exist for acquiring training in this swiftly growing and blossoming sector.
